Bran's youthful dream of becoming a knight in France
fails to become a reality, and he chooses instead to serve
Lord Arlen at Ballinasloe, a castle set in the harsh
untamed landscape of Medieval Ireland. There he meets
fellow Welshman Matty Groves, a traveling minstrel of
beautiful voice who spellbinds everyone with his harp and
mesmerizing song, especially the lord's young bride.
So begins the tale of knights, honor,
betrayal, and death, soaked in the great passions and reckless
abandon of young, rootless men in the Age of Chivalry.

David Winston Eggleston lived and breathed the
character of Bran in his novel, Blood on the Harp.
As a student of medieval history, David
could seldom be faulted for any pronouncement he
might make on historical matters.
He was a member of the Society for Creative
Anachronism and loved participating in
medieval fighting tourneys and reenactments.
He was an accomplished writer of magazine
features, newspaper articles, and advertising.
This is his only published novel.
Tragically, David had a fatal accident in Ireland in 1990, close to where his story
of brave, hapless Bran takes place and it is there
he was buried, in the place he so loved. |
